Sweet Soirees: DIY Sugar Plum 1st Birthday

EDE Sugar Plum Birthday4

December birthdays can be tough and I know, first hand, because I have one- and now, so does my daughter.  I want her birthdays to feel as special as those “lucky” kids who get to have pool party birthdays in the summer.  We celebrated Courtney’s first birthday by embracing the holiday spirit with a theme of Our Sugar Plum is Turning 1!  It was a festive affair that lent itself well for a little girl’s birthday party.  My favorite details included the paper-doll ballerina garland, a tulle tutu for my little one, ballerina cupcake toppers, Amazingly Good Eggnog, and party cracker favors.

Most of the party was DIY, but I could not have done it without a little help from these sources:

Paper Goods from Meri Meri and World Market

“More Merry Please” Disposable Cups from Pier 1 Imports

Custom Onsie from Etsy Shop, Ortinau Art

Tutu from Etsy Shop, SimplyElegant93

Happy Birthday Banner and Snowflake Garland from Etsy Shop, EMTsweetie

The Year of Living With Simplicity

And here are just a few quotes I’m going to read every day to remind me of my resolutions.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo Da Vinci

“In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.” Henry David Thoreau

“Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.”  Frederic Chopin

“Simplicity is the most difficult thing to secure in this world; it is the last limit of experience and the last effort of genius. — George Sand

“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”  Steve Jobs

Holiday Gifts for the Bride-to-Be

Here are just a few gift ideas for the bride-to-be in your life.  Happy shopping!

Relax and de-stress together with a mani/pedi and mimosas at Mimosa DC.

She needs her beauty sleep, so what better than a custom eye mask inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany’s?

A pretty kimono robe for her to wear while getting ready on her wedding day would be the perfect fit!

Get her ready for the honeymoon with custom luggage tags and passport cover.

Help her pick her playlist with this Soundtrack of Your Life wizard and love-ly DVF earbuds.

Practice toasting to the happy couple with these rose-colored Champagne Coupes from BHLDN.

She’ll definitely remember her lines with this adorable “I Do” necklace from Kate Spade.

Even tired dancing feet should sparkle!

These cute calling cards would be just right for a new Mrs.

A unique keepsake of her wedding day would be a custom letterpress print  of her wedding ceremony music or the lyrics to their first dance song.
